In particular the conference the conference aims to:

1. Explore ways of increasing the impact of Corporate Social Responsibility departments and related foundations.
2. Present and discuss successful rural development models focused on women.
3. Create networking opportunities for all participating organizations.

Bringing All Parties Together:

1. Evidence of successful models for public-private partnerships and rural development strategies.
2. Success stories about what works and doesn’t work on the ground in rural development practice.
3. Information about the importance of accountability and transparency in making organizations investment-ready.

Background

CRHP, STAPI, and Elon University have committed to hosting a conference in response to the recent international push for private sector investment in non-profit initiatives. Launched in July 2000, the United Nations Global Compact seeks to align corporate interests with ten universally accepted principles related to human rights, labor, the environment, and anti-corruption. Involving the participation of over 8,700 corporate partners and other stakeholders in more than 130 countries, the UN Global Compact represents the largest voluntary corporate responsibility initiative in the world. The proposed conference will center on the goals of the UN Global Compact. It will provide engagement between corporations, private stakeholders, and rural development-based non-profits in India.

Outcomes

The conference will present effective means of connecting private and not-for-profit sectors and highlight successful rural development strategies. The corporate participants will develop a better understanding for the opportunities related to the investment in rural development not-for-profits. For the not-for-profits the conference will underscore the importance of accountability and transparency in making the organizations investment-ready.
